Welcome to the website for all students and parents of Coach Thomas' PE class. To give a little background I am a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, NC, but I am originally from Burnsville, NC. I grew up with a passion for Physical Education but it wasn't until an internship with Coach Jeff Fender (who teaches at Cane River Middle School) that my passion blossomed unto a dedication. In this internship I learned two things about kids. One was that they are always looking for a way to be active but they are not always provided the tools to do this. In this class I will be addressing this by not only teaching students sports and games but also other activities they can do to stay fit. The goal of this class is to help students feel better about how they look and help them with becoming better people. That leads me to the second thing I observed in my internship, kids today are experiencing a wide variety of both good and bad. This leads to very difficult decisions and sometimes misguided aggression. For many years experts have been attempting to figure out why kids are changing so rapidly. The short answer is that the world and the everyday experience of students are changing rapidly and our kids are trying to keep up. It is my goal this year to help my students with making the right decisions and with becoming calm, considerate, and prepared adults. I hope that in this year I will get to know both students and parents and that we are able to maintain a professional and pleasant relationship. I am looking forward to this year; see you all in class.
